It has always been hard to acquire a Birkin and for the lucky ones, just being offered a Birkin is a magical moment in itself.
Whether you’ve thought about it for years or just happen to stumble upon one, it’s an experience that you’ll never forget.
As the Birkin Fairy, I can pretty much tell you anything and everything about a Birkin, except for the first one I ever sold.
I have absolutely no recollection of it! When I started working at Hermes I remember being a bit star struck. The products were mythical and it resonated throughout the store. At the time there was a waiting list for the Birkin Bag and at its longest, 3 years. Considering the extreme demand for these bags we can agree that it wasn’t hard to find a buyer. Selling a $4,000 bag (the price then) was emotionless. It took a lot more than a few quick and easy sales to transform me into a real fairy.
Naturally, I started developing lasting relationships with my clients and I grew to have a deeper understanding of their inner wants and needs. It wasn’t until many years later that a loyal client of mine started referring to me as “The Birkin Fairy”. She gave me this name for the magical ways I was able to fulfill her wishes under arduous circumstances. We worked together for many years strategically on how to build her collection. I’m proud to say that today, she has one of the largest collections of Hermes handbags in the United States. My new name stuck and I continued to refine my ability to pair the perfect bag with the right client.
